Intractable agricultural chemicals in New Zealand

Publication date:  February 2006
Publication reference number:  ME 717

Between 2003 and 2006 the Ministry and 13 regional councils worked together to collect agricultural chemicals, mainly from rural properties. Most of the chemicals collected were persistent organic pollutants (POPs) – chemical substances that persist in the environment and pose a risk of causing adverse effects to human health and the environment.

This report provides an estimate of the amount of intractable agrichemicals remaining on farms in each region of New Zealand following the completion of the programme.
