Developing a composite index to describe river condition in New Zealand

The aim of a Composite River Condition Index for New Zealand is to combine a number of sub-indices to communicate a representative holistic picture of river condition. Three indices are investigated: the Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment water quality index (CCME water quality index), the Victorian Index of Stream Condition (Victorian ISC) and the Queensland Environmental Health Monitoring Programme (EHMP). Limitations and areas requiring further development are discussed.
