The Ministry for the Environment consulted on New Zealand’s phase down of hydrofluorocarbons, greenhouse gases which could have a significant climate change impact. New Zealand supported the world’s agreement to phase down HFCs worldwide last year and this consultation explored how we could implement the agreement.
This consultation document sought feedback on proposals, including:
- a permitting system to phase down the import of HFCs
- other controls required to meet the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol
- additional supporting measures to help business transition to lower global warming alternatives.
We also sought feedback on the impact of the phase down on business.
