The figure is a scatter diagram of maximum daily storm surge in mm (vertical axis) versus minimum daily barometric pressure in hectopascals, over a 3-year period. The graph clearly indicates an inverse relation between storm surge and pressure: the highest storm surges of around 200mm occur for pressures below about 1000hPa. A best fit straight line through the points is given by y = -6.04x + 6109.84 with a R2 value of 0.67, covering the pressure range (x-axis) from below 980 to above 1030hPa.
