Proposed technical updates to New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme regulations for 2016

Following consideration of submissions, the Minister for Climate Change Issues approved drafting of the amendment regulations. Cabinet has since approved the three technical updates consulted upon and the annual adjustment to the Climate Change (Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Levies) Regulations.

About the consultation

The Government is conducting consultation with parties affected by proposed technical updates to three regulations under the New Zealand Emission Trading Scheme. 

The regulations are:

  • Climate Change (Eligible Industrial Activities) Regulations 2010 
  • Climate Change (Stationary Energy and Industrial Processes) Regulations 2009
  • Climate Change (Forestry Sector) Regulations 2008.

Following a review, no change to default emissions factors contained in the Climate Change (Liquid Fossil Fuels) Regulations 2008 is proposed. Your feedback is sought on whether future reviews should include both local refined and imported product.
