The Waste Minimisation Fund funds projects that promote or achieve waste minimisation. By supporting these projects the fund increases resource efficiency, reuse, recovery and recycling and decreases waste to landfill.
The purpose of the Freshwater Improvement Fund is to improve the management of New Zealand’s lakes, rivers, streams, groundwater and wetlands. It supports projects that help communities manage fresh water within environmental limits. The fund is now closed for applications. Dates for the next funding round have not been set. The Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund provides $2.63 million in annual funding to regional councils and unitary authorities for the remediation of contaminated sites that pose a risk to human health and the environment.
The Environmental Legal Assistance Fund provides not-for-profit groups with financial assistance to advocate for an environmental issue of public interest at resource management cases at the Environment Court, higher courts and at boards of inquiry constituted under the ‘call-in’ provisions of the Resource Management Act 1991.
