New Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment

Congratulations to NZ’s new Parliamentary Commissioner for 

the Environment, Simon Upton  sworn in by the
Governor-General yesterday. 

Mr Upton brings with him a wealth of experience in high-level environmental roles. He is a former Environment Minister and spent seven years as Environment Director for the OECD, a role from which he returned from to take up his new post, replacing incumbent Dr Jan Wright.

As an independent Officer of Parliament, Mr Upton has broad powers to investigate environmental concerns and is wholly independent of the government of the day
