MfE's new Chief Operating Officer - Claire Richardson

Ministry for the Environment Chief Executive, Vicky Robertson has announced the appointment of Claire Richardson as the Ministry’s new Chief Operating Officer. 

"It’s my pleasure to announce Claire’s appointment to this role.  Claire has diverse international experience spanning multiple sectors including international film and television, international aid, and more recently local government.”

Claire will be responsible for leading the translation of the Ministry’s vision and strategy to action, and achieving real results for the environment.  

“This position is critical to our success and our role as stewards for the environment. Claire’s ability to lead within the Ministry, and develop partnerships across government, will be essential to supporting our people to deliver positive environmental outcomes for New Zealanders.”

Claire joins the Ministry from the Auckland Council  where she held a number of senior roles.  In addition to leading the Deputy Mayors office, Claire was instrumental the Waitakere Mayoral taskforce on family violence, and in the smooth amalgamation of civil defence capability across Auckland when the councils merged.

“Claire has strong leadership, governance, and risk management experience.   We are looking forward to welcoming her to the team.”

Claire holds a Masters of International Affairs from the Australian National University and the International Peace Research Institute, Norway, and a Bachelor of Communication Studies from the Auckland Institute of Technology.

Claire will start her role on 29 January, 2018.
