The Arthur’s Pass and Castle Hill alpine communities are located within a nationally significant area of the Southern Alps. The area attracts a high number of local and international visitors every year. Until now, no recycling, only a refuse service has been provided.
About the project
In 2016 the Waste Minimisation Fund contributed $155,500 for Selwyn District Council to introduce recycling stations to Arthur’s Pass and Castle Hill communities.
The recycling stations are enabling residents, businesses and tourists to access a recycling facility accepting the full range of kerbside recyclables: glass bottles, plastics, aluminium and steel cans, paper and cardboard. The Council aims to recover around 40 tonnes of recyclables per year.
