Ministry conferences and events

Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Forum

The Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Forum, hosted in partnership by the Ministry for the Environment and the Sir Peter Blake Trust, provides young people aged between 15 and 18 to take part in practical environmental projects that will give them the skills and experience to take action for the environment in their regions.

Events

The following event(s) are supported by the Ministry for the Environment:

Industry liaison meetings

The Ministry for the Environment Industry Liaison meetings are held approximately twice a year in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

The meetings are an opportunity for New Zealand industry representatives to meet with Ministry officials and other members of the business community. Ministry work programmes relevant to business are discussed. The meetings also include a general discussion on how the Ministry can work alongside industry in encouraging sustainable business practice in New Zealand.

World Environment Day - 5 June each year

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations Environment Programme in 1973 to help raise awareness of environmental issues. It is celebrated in more than 150 countries. The conference will be held in Wellington on 1-2 August 2011 with the Wellington City Council as the Foundation Sponsor.

The 7th conference will focus on best practice business responses to international and domestic policy developments. These will include an analysis of the recent Cancun meeting, an analysis of New Zealand’s ETS and its mid-year review and a close look at emerging policies in Australia.

The program will offer practical advice to help businesses meet their obligations and best manage their climate change-related risks.

Other continuing themes of the event will include the developing role of investors in climate change risk analysis, adaptation and catastrophe event management, developments within the clean tech and renewable sector and progress on energy efficiency.

Conference organisers will again work with stakeholders to design a program over two days that offers a mix of policy updates, discussion and technical advice for business wanting to understand the changes in play for 2011 and beyond.
