Resourcing for processing resource consent applications

This page reports on local authorities' resourcing for processing resource consent applications.

About local authorities' resourcing

The capacity of local authorities to fulfil their resource consent responsibilities may influence how effective they can be in meeting statutory requirements, such as processing timeframes.

In some instances there are a number of staff to support consent application processes. In others, one person might process consent applications under the RMA and fulfil a number of other responsibilities and functions under the RMA and/or other Acts.

2014/15

  • 753 full-time equivalents were employed by New Zealand's 78 local authorities to process resource consents.
  • 15 local authorities had two or fewer full-time equivalents employed to process or support the processing of resource consents.
