Becoming Certified

The programme is delivered by the University of Auckland's Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). For specific information about the programme please visit The University of Auckland's Centre for Continuing Education website.

Training and certification rounds rely upon sufficient demand. To advise the Centre for Continuing Education of your interest, please phone: 0800 864 266 or email: rma-admin@auckland.ac.nz

Benefits of Certification

  • The requirements of the RMA means that the majority of a hearing panel must be MGD certificate holders. If you are a certificate holder then it is more likely you will be chosen to form part of a panel for the hearing of a resource consent.
  • Successful participants are issued with a certificate, valid for three years, confirming they have successfully achieved the programme’s competencies and are capable decision-makers.
  • The Decision Maker Newsletter is regularly sent out to certificate holders discussing hearing and decision-making practice, training opportunities, and other points of interest.

Obligations of Certification

  • Certificate holders are obliged to engage in continuing professional development and have their understanding re-assessed, should they wish to have their certificates reissued on expiry after three years.
