Pre-hearing meeting – 21 May 2008

Three pre-hearing meetings were held on Wed 21 May 2008 in Taupo. Meeting details are provided below –

Session 1 - Effects on Other Consented Power Projects

Topics to include implications for other consented geothermal power projects, potential cumulative effects from Te Mihi and other consented projects and other issues raised in the relevant submissions.  

Session 2 - Issues of Concern to Iwi

Topics will cover the issues of concern to Iwi, including potential affects on interests of hapu in terms of their kaitiakitanga, customary and Treaty interests and right to development and review conditions to ensure consistency with any future outcomes of the Waikato River Settlement.

Session 3 - Neighbouring Properties

Topics to include effects on the environment, loss of property value / compensation and visual amenity, odours and pollution of the air, traffic issues, discharges to land, effects on groundwater, decommissioning of the existing plant and other effect matters proposed to be addressed by management plans etc.

The pre-hearing meetings were chaired by Ms Dorothy Wakeling, an independent hearings commissioner, engaged by the Ministry for the Environment.  Ms Wakeling will prepare a report on the outcomes of the pre-hearing meeting and this will be sent to the Board of Inquiry prior to the hearing.  A copy of the pre-hearing meeting report will also be sent to all attendees at the pre-hearing meeting.  The report will be taken into account by the Board of Inquiry in determining the proposal.

Pre-hearing meeting – 6 June 2008

A further pre-hearing meeting was held on 6 June 2008 in Taupo, focussing on issues related to Iwi. The meeting was chaired by Mr Morris Love, an independent facilitator engaged by the Ministry for the Environment.
