National Environmental Standard for Human Drinking Water Sources: Call for Submissions

In accordance with section 44 of the Resource Management Act (1991), the Minister for the Environment gives notice of their intention to develop a national environmental standard (regulations) for human drinking water sources.

The intent of the proposed standard is to improve the management of human drinking water sources. This is consistent with the purpose of the Act, in safeguarding the life–supporting capacity of water and managing resources in a way that enables people and communities to provide for their health and safety.

A discussion document outlining the subject matter of the proposed standard in detail has been produced by the Ministry for the Environment to assist people in making submissions. This document can be viewed at the Ministry for the Environment, Environment House, 23 Kate Sheppard Place, Thorndon, Wellington, and online at www.mfe.govt.nz.

If you would prefer a hard copy of the discussion document, free copies are available by emailing your request to orders@mfe.govt.nz.

The proposal will also be presented at the Ministry for the Environment’s Talk Environment Roadshow, held in 16 different locations around New Zealand between 10 and 27 October 2005. For more information about the Talk Environment Roadshow, visit the Ministry for the Environment’s website at www.mfe.govt.nz.
