A User Guide for the Macroinvertebrate Community Index

This consultant's report provides an expert view on best-practice use of the Macroinvertebrate Community Index (MCI) for monitoring and reporting on stream health in New Zealand. It is a user guide that contains advice on appropriate application of the MCI in different stream environments (including the recently developed MCI for soft-bottomed streams), design of monitoring programmes and data analyses (including trend detection). The guide is intended to compliment existing reports on macroinvertebrates, including the Protocols for sampling macroinvertebrates in wadeable streams.
