The chart shows the amount of used oil sent to Holcim Ltd in Westport, from 1996 to 2003. In 1996 the amount of oil used was 5 million litres. This amount grew over the succeeding years to nearly 15 million litres in 2003. The chart divides the sources of the oil into two groups:

• Mobil South Island, independent businesses, landfill operators, ships' oil, and others
• Used oil recovery programme members.

In 1996 the proportion of total oil supplied by each group was about half. By 2003 more than three quarters of the oil came from the oil recovery programme.
