This appendix contains a summary checklist of the ‘ask yourself’ questions accompanying each step of the planning cycle, as provided in chapter 4. This checklist is provided as a tool that may help develop the documentation for your WMMP.

This diagram shows the path councils should follow to develop a WMMP:
| 4.1 Project establishment | |
|---|---|
| 4.1.1 Preliminary review of existing plan and regulations |
When was our existing waste management plan drafted/adopted? |
| What is the status of the actions of our current plan? | |
| Since the last plan was adopted, have any major issues arisen (eg, the disposal facility is to close soon, the resource recovery station / transfer station needs upgrading, there is interest in a new type of waste collection system, market conditions are affecting the recycling operation)? | |
| What is the status of our existing bylaw and will it need to be reviewed concurrently with our WMMP process? | |
| What does our LTCCP require from the WMMP? | |
| 4.1.2 Alignment to LTCCP cycle and timeframes |
When is the LTCCP being prepared? |
| Are there likely to be any significant issues arising from the WMMP review, and consequently statements of proposal within the WMMP, that will need to be incorporated in the LTCCP? | |
| If yes, should the WMMP be consulted on separately through the annual plan or the LTCCP? What are the timeframes involved? | |
| 4.1.3 Services procurement and contract timeframes |
What are the current expiry dates for collection and processing contracts for refuse, recycling or other recovered materials (waste and diverted material)? |
| Are any significant changes in the mode of delivery or new services or infrastructure being considered? If yes, do the expiry dates for the current contracts allow adequate time for technical investigations, development of proposals, consultation, adoption and procurement, and lead-in time? | |
| 4.1.4 Partnership and stakeholder engagement |
What stakeholders and potential partners may have an interest in this WMMP? |
