Exploring the Built Environment - Your School
Learning objectives
Students will develop:
- awareness of the issues that affect their school, and an understanding of potential solutions.
Process
- As a class, identify issues the school faces or is likely to face in the future, for example waste management, traffic management, additional buildings/resources needed, the design of the school and school grounds, or an increasing or decreasing school roll.
- Divide students into small groups and allocate one issue to each group.
- Ask each group to develop a fact sheet on their issue. The fact sheet should:
- outline why it is an issue
- outline the causes of the issue
- identify potential solutions
- list what would need to be done to implement each potential solution, and any difficulties that would be likely to be encountered
- identify a preferred solution.
- Ask each group to explain their issue and suggested solution to the class.
