Purpose:

To develop an understanding of: the tenure aspirations of families/households; the trade-offs families/households have to make to achieve home ownership in terms of quality, style and location; the impact of these trends on the future demand for housing by tenure, type and region; and the potential policy impact these trends may have for Government policy and consequent building industry workload.

Purpose:

To provide a study of the housing experiences and aspirations of Maori communities to inform policy in the housing area and to link to other studies relevant to the situation of Maori.

Purpose:

To shed light on the behaviour of the New Zealand housing market, we examine the dynamic and long-run responses of house values across spatial communities and across time to economic variables which impact on the local economy.

Title:

Housing and Related Social Conditions of the Tongan Community Living in Otara (March 2004)

Purpose:

A thesis exploring the key fundamental issues that have contributed to forcing the majority of Tongan people in New Zealand to live in rental accommodation.

Title:

The impact of financial circumstances on tenure choices in New Zealand (June 2004)

Purpose:

To generate a set of related housing research projects addressing the relationship between financial circumstances and tenure choices for those New Zealanders in the 18-40-year-old cohort.

Title:

Accommodation options for older people in Aotearoa/New Zealand (June 2004)

Purpose:

To analyse the housing situation of older people (aged 65 and over) in New Zealand and the housing options that are open to them, both at the present time and in the future. Special attention will be given to people in the low socio-economic groups, Maori, Pacific people and women.

Purpose:

To establish and scope the key issues associated with housing costs and affordable housing in New Zealand and compare these costs and issues with other similar nations such as Australia.

Title:

Changes in the Structure of the New Zealand Housing Market (June 2004)

Purpose:

To provide a detailed analysis and description of the housing sector and changes in it over the past two decades. This will include empirical data and commentary on housing stock, housing production, supply and exchange, financial characteristics, housing access, consumption, need and demand, and the legislative, regulatory and institutional environment.

Bi-directional impacts of economic, social and environmental changes and the New Zealand housing market (July 2004)

Purpose:

To identify a set of housing research projects addressing two related topics:

  • the impact of economic, social and environmental changes on housing in New Zealand's non-metropolitan regions
  • the economic, social and environmental impacts of the New Zealand housing market.

Purpose:

Purpose:

To take some key initial steps toward improving the central city immediately and for its long term viability, including:

  • the desire to reverse the business and residential drift from the central city into the suburbs or outlying areas
  • marketing and providing incentives for the central city as a destination for new business and residential ventures
  • making it easier for business and residential development opportunities to proceed (in comparison to either suburban areas or other cities)
  • making the central city a more attractive place to live, shop, socialise and conduct business.

Long Term Planning and Infrastructure Needs of Metropolitan Christchurch, by Ted Pryor

Purpose:

This illustrated report examines the needs for a spatially defined, long term development strategy for metropolitan Christchurch and was presented as one topic at a seminar workshop organised by the Christchurch Civic Trust Inc in June 2003. Subsequently, initiatives have been taken by the Christchurch City Council in collaboration with adjoining territorial authorities and the Canterbury Regional Council to formulate a Long Term Urban Development Strategy.
