This figure shows the distribution of geothermal and groundwater consents on a map of New Zealand. The map also displays the regional boundaries. The geothermal consents are concentrated in the central North Island and North of this area – the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. The groundwater consents are distributed throughout the country. In the North Island the Auckland region appears to have the highest concentration of groundwater consents. In the South Island the Canterbury region appears to have the highest concentration of groundwater consents.
