  • Numbers of macroinvertebrates by species or lowest taxonomic level possible

Parameters- what is calculated N/A
Methods used to measure parameters Rocky shore: methodology based on that used in Taranaki and Bay of Plenty Regions. At each site there are 5 x 0.25m²quadrats within each of 5 blocks positioned around mean low water. Counts are made of all animals and % cover for all algae. If conditions are rough the sampling requirement is reduced and based on photographs taken of some quadrats.

Open coast soft sediments: This used the same methodology as the Southland estuary ecology programme.

Management Evaluation

  
Original purpose. To document existing situation and to provide a baseline to gauge future trends in coastal sediment composition and ecological condition. To identify the response of the marine environment to any management actions taken to reduce point and non-point loadings of silt, nutrients and pathogenic organisms to the coast.
