3.0.Methodology

3.1. New Zealand classification systems and spatial frameworks

The following methodology was used:

• Confirmation of the metadata requirements and management questions.
• Confirmation of national spatial frameworks and classifications systems to be reviewed.
• Completion of metadata requirements and answering of management questions where appropriate/possible.
• Preparation of a comparative table for the main classification systems/spatial frameworks.
• Identification of trends.

Appendix 2 contains the template used for compiling information about New Zealand marine classifications. Type I keywords are listed below the template.

3.2. International classification systems and spatial frameworks

The following methodology was used:

• Selection and assessment of a representative selection of international classification systems and spatial frameworks.
• Clarification of methodology for summarising information about the international classification systems and spatial frameworks.
• Identification of trends.
