New Zealand lakes colour-coded according to Secchi depth (5 categories covering the range 0.15 to 15 m). Data unavailable for most regions except Waikato and Northland. In these regions lakes span all categories but in general the larger, deeper lakes (Rotorua lakes and Lake Taupo for example) occupy the higher categories and the lowland lakes the lower categories.
