Text description of figure

Auckland, Nelson and Wellington are using more land than the usable land area in their region, ie. they are in overshoot (less sustainable), but their ecological footprint per capita is comparatively low (more sustainable than average).

Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Tasman and Waikato are using less land than the usable land area in their region (more sustainable) and their ecological footprint per capita is comparatively low (more sustainable than average).

Canterbury, Manawatu-Wanganui, Marlborough, Northland, Otago, Southland and West Coasts are using less land than the usable land area in their region (more sustainable), but their ecological footprint per capita is comparatively high (less sustainable than average).
