A number of settlement acts authorise the Minister for Conservation or the Commissioner of Crown Lands, as appropriate, to enter into and amend deeds of recognition in respect of the land within the statutory areas. The purpose of deeds of recognition is to require that the governance entity be consulted, and regard be had to its views, as provided for in the deed of settlement and in each deed of recognition.
