Regulatory Impact Statement – National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2011

Ministry for the Environment, April 2011

A regulatory impact statement was produced prior to the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2011 being released.

All policy proposals submitted to Cabinet which result in Government bills or statutory regulations must be accompanied by a Regulatory Impact Statement, unless an exemption applies.

The National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2011 sets out the objectives and policies for freshwater management under the Resource Management Act 1991.

The freshwater NPS will help drive national consistency in local RMA planning and decision-making while allowing for an appropriate level of regional flexibility. This will support improved freshwater management in New Zealand.
