8 A Proposed Monitoring and Reporting Strategy
In summary, the proposed monitoring and reporting strategy contains five elements:
- Better definition of the Accord targets and how these are monitored and reported.
- Ongoing monitoring in the four best practice dairy catchments, with some modifications to monitoring to try and separate out the benefits of implementing the Accord for these watercourses.
- Adding about eight other representative catchments around the country to the monitoring network to specifically assess the benefits of implementing the Accord. Preliminary suggestions are made as to what these catchments could be. The detail of the monitoring programmes should be provided through the Regional Action Plans.
- Some site-specific studies to assess the benefits of Accord interventions.
- Cautious national aggregation of the predicted environmental benefits of the individual Accord actions or the cumulative benefits of the Accord in total.
