Projected balance of emissions units during the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol

September 2007, Ref. ME808

This publication updates New Zealand’s projected quantity of emissions and removals of greenhouse gases during the first commitment period (2008-2012) of the Kyoto Protocol.

This 2007 "Net Position" is a compilation of projections across various sectors. Projections for the agricultural and forest sink sector are provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, projections for the energy and industrial processes sector are from the Ministry of Economic Development, and projections from the waste sector are from the Ministry for the Environment.

The projected quantity of greenhouse gas emissions and removals is a core component of New Zealand's projected financial surplus or deficit over the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol. The other components are the international price of emissions units and the exchange rate between the New Zealand and United States currencies.

For more information see the questions and answers on New Zealand's net position.
