Text description of figure

There are seven main steps in the development of LCDB2.

1. Image Acquisition

  • Summer 2001 / 2002

2. Image Processing

  • Pan sharpen ETM+ imagery to 15 m
  • Generate 15 m pixel DTM’s
  • Ortho-rectify imagery
  • Supply source imagery and ortho-rectified imagery to Project Manager

3. Spectral Integrity Check

  • Remove topographic effect to produce flattened imagery
  • Perform spectral integrity check of LCDB1 with flattened imagery
  • Highlight pixels that deviate from LCDB1 class
  • Supply spectral integrity check image to Project Manager

4. LCDB2 GIS processing (direct interaction with steps 5 and 6)

  • Correct LCDB1 classifications and generalisation errors
  • Confirm actual land cover changes between image dates
  • Code Type of land cover change
  • Supply and edit vectors for field check

5. Field Checking (direct interaction with steps 4, 6 and 7)

  • Verify draft land cover classes
  • Supply hardcopy of recommended edits of draft classification to contractors at stage 4

6. Accuracy Assessment (direct interaction with steps 4 and 5)

  • Decide on sampling intensity by class, acquire relevant aerial photography and ancillary data to complete the work
  • Publish accuracy assessment

7. Completed LCDB2

  • Deliver LCDB2 to stakeholders
  • Compile metadata
  • Distribute via database custodian
  • Write user manual
