  6. Newsletter purpose

1. Opening dates for the annual industrial allocation process

Applications for industrial allocations opened on 1 January 2011 and will close on 30 April 2011.

A flowchart explaining what application form you need to complete can be found on the Climate Change website under the third question, "What application form do I need to complete during 1 January to 30 April 2011".  Click here to go to the relevant page.

If you need assistance, please email etsallocations@mfe.govt.nz

2. What information you need for an application

Many of you already have an Emissions Unit Registry (EUR) account open, so all you need to do is apply. As a reminder, the information you need to provide when applying for an allocation is:

  • applicant details and your EUR holding account number (4 digits)
  • information on the activity you carry out and the related products you produce
  • details on the amount you produce (depending on the application type)
  • an assessment of your NZU entitlement and any adjustment needed
  • contact person details.

When applying, please make sure you select the correct application type and that it is matched to the correct year.

For more information please email etsallocations@mfe.govt.nz or call 0800 CLIMATE (254 628).

3. Overview of changes to the new application form

A new online application form is now available. One key change in the form is you only need to enter your contact details once if you are putting in two applications in the same session.

4. Workshops for the horticulture and floriculture sectors – March 2011

Workshops for growers (of fresh tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, fresh capsicums and cut roses) will be held in the first week of March. These will be a repeat of the December 2010 workshops and are focussed on helping people open EUR accounts and the application process. There will be an initial presentation and also an opportunity to set your EUR account.

Dates and location for the workshops are below (venues will be confirmed in February):

  • Whangarei: Tuesday 1 March, 2.00pm–5.00pm
  • Auckland: Wednesday 2 March, 2.00pm–5.00pm
  • Palmerston North: Thursday 3 March, 2.00pm–5.00pm
  • Christchurch: Friday 4 March, 2.00pm–5.00pm

If you wish to attend any of these workshops please RSVP by emailing etsallocations@mfe.govt.nz or calling 0800 CLIMATE (254 628).

The workshops are for growers, however industrial allocation recipients are welcome to come and meet members of the ETS Allocations team.

5. New ETS Allocation team members

Michelle Ward was your main contact in 2010. This year Michelle will be handing over her responsibilities to a new team and will be focussing on project management. The new members of the ETS Allocations team have a variety of experience in service delivery, relationship management, climate change, business management and accountancy:

Megan Papps – Senior Analyst
Megan is responsible for managing the allocation of New Zealand Units (NZUs) to eligible firms and will help monitor and support the process.

Lucy Petheram and Karl Eagle – Analysts
Lucy and Karl are responsible for administering the allocation of New Zealand Units (NZUs) to eligible firms. They will also focus on educating allocation recipients about their entitlements and obligations under the Climate Change Response Act 2002.

6. Newsletter purpose

The purpose of the Industrial Allocation update is to advise customers of information that relates directly to the industrial application process for their business. The mailing list will be amended to remove recipients unless they have direct contact with the ETS Allocations team that relates to an application. If this does not apply to you, but you still wish to remain informed, please check out the Climate Change website (www.climatechange.govt.nz).
