Welcome to this issue of our e-newsletter. The newsletter keeps you up to date on the regulations-making process for allocating emissions unit (NZUs) to businesses under the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS).
Applications for industrial allocation for the fourth group of eligible industrial activities (‘group four activities‘) open in December 2010 and January 2011.
The activities and opening dates are:
Production of protein meal - opens 2 December 2010
Production of fresh tomatoes - opens 1 January 2011
Production of fresh capsicums - opens 1 January 2011
Production of fresh cucumbers - opens 1 January 2011
Production of cut roses - opens 1 January 2011
Applications for provisional allocations open on 2 December 2010. At this time you can apply for the provisional allocation for 1 July to 31 December 2010 period, based on annual production for 2009.

Assistance for growers will be provided in workshops held throughout the country in December 2010 and late January/February 2011. Each workshop will show two half hour presentations (repeated).
If you would like to attend any of these workshops please RSVP by emailing etsallocations@mfe.govt.nz or calling 0800 CLIMATE (254 628).
The workshops planned for late January/February 2011 will be held in Auckland, Palmerston North, Blenheim and Christchurch.
A new online application form will be available from 1 January 2011. The application form has been redesigned to be more user-friendly. For example, if you are applying for two activities or putting in two applications in the same session, the form saves details so you only need to enter your contact details once.

The Ministry for the Environment closes from midday on Friday 24 December 2010 and reopens on Monday 10 January 2011.
