The risk assessment process is a six-step process, and at each stage of the process there is a two-way link with the final stage of communication and consultation, evaluation and monitoring. Progress to the next step occurs on the completion of the previous step.

Step Process
1 Context: Identify climate change, strategic, organisation and risk assessments context.
2 Identify risk: Identify hazards and describe risks
3 Analyse risks: Assess existing management methods. Determine likelihood and consequence. Record risk.
4 Evaluate risks: Compare against criteria, prioritise and identify key issues.
5 Treat risks: Identify objectives, targets and actions to address key issues. Evaluate cost of benefits of options. Community participation. Select options, plan and action.
6 Communication and consultation, monitoring and evaluation.
