Text description of figure

The figure shows a map of New Zealand presenting the probability of the July-June PED exceeding 400mm in any year. Boundaries in the probability contours occur at 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, and 0.9. The map shows a lot of spatial detail, but there are clear regional patterns. The areas of highest probability (exceeding 0.5) are Napier/Hastings, Marlborough, coastal Canterbury and several areas of inland Otago. Areas of probability lying between 0.1 and 0.5 are found along the east coast of both islands, Auckland and Rodney district, Wanganui and the Manawatu, and in Nelson.
