The figure shows a bar graph of the accumulated June-May PED (in mm) against time, for Lincoln. Each bar consists of 4 smaller bars stacked on top of each other, each representing the seasonal contribution to the June-May total. The period is from 1881/82 to 2003/04. There is large annual variability in the accumulated PED, which ranges from just under 100mm (1952/53) to nearly 800mm (1988/89). The largest contribution to the total is during summer, and there is usually no deficit in winter. There are as many years after the mid-1980s when the accumulated PED exceeds 500mm as in the preceding 100 years.
