The figure is a scatter plot of potential evapotranspiration deficit (vertical axis, range from 0 to 700mm) accumulated over the period of November to April against the amount of precipitation (range 0 to 800mm) during the same period, at Napier. The scattered data points in the graph indicate an inverse relationship between the potential evapotranspiration deficit and the amount of precipitation. The equation of a best fit line through the data points is given by: y= –0.80x+676 with a R-squared of 0.64.
