The figure is a scatter plot of potential evapotranspiration deficit at Lincoln (vertical axis, range from 0 to 900mm) against the number of days per year on which an evapotranspiration deficit occurred (range 0 to 250 days), for July-June years over 1881 to 2004. The points are scattered around a straight line of positive slope going through the origin. The slope of the correlation is 3.5mm per day of deficit, and the R-squared for this line is 0.8657.
