The figure shows the percent of total land area for the years from 1972 to 2003 where PED exceeded thresholds of 200, 400 and 600mm. The driest years on this record were 1997/98, 1972/73, 1977/78, 2000/01, 1982/83, 1988/89, 2002/03 and 1984/85, where more than 10% pf the land exceeded 400mm PED.
