Text description of figure

The Auckland Regional Council Erosion Management Manual gives a hierarchy of measures to consider when preparing a response strategy, which depend on planning timeframes.

Moving from timeframes of over 100 years down to less than 5 years, actions include:

  1. 100 years or more: Land use strategy for a particular "greenfield" site
  2. 50 years: Land use strategy
  3. 20 years: Buffer techniques, such as zoning and reserves
  4. 10 years: Planning techniques, and in the very short term,
  5. 5 years: Interim management measures, such as structural options, or doing nothing.
