Presents a map of New Zealand indicating:
- the full extent of the 37 LENZ Level II environments
- areas of remaining indigenous vegetation not protected
- areas of remaining indigenous vegetation under legal protection.
Each region has some proportion of the 37 environments. However the main areas with less than 20% indigenous vegetation remaining are concentrated in:
- the Lower Waikato and Hauraki Plains
- Western Taranaki
- Lowland areas of the Rangitikei/Manawatu area
- Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa
- Canterbury Plains
- Areas in Otago and Southland.
A very small area of this is legally protected, including areas in the Hauraki Plains, the base of Mount Taranaki, and areas in Southland.
