Text description of figure

The diagram measures recorded emissions of PM10 against admissions to hospital for respiratory illnesses, in Christchurch, from 1988 to 1998. The graph shows large increases (from an average of 20 microgrammes per cubic metre to over 80 microgrammes per cubic metre) in PM10 emissions in the winter months, with a corresponding increase in the number of hospital admissions. Admissions rose throughout the period, from about 20 per day in the winter months, to nearly 40.
