The Ministry runs the Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS) monitoring sites in New Zealand. Particle, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, lead and carbon monoxide concentrations are measured at two sites in Auckland and one in Christchurch. The monitoring data collected are fed into the Ministry’s reporting on air quality. Annual GEMS monitoring reports are available.
