Figure 5.4 (left figure) shows the daytime valley breeze where warm air flows up the slope, where it cools and recirculates back to the bottom of the valley. The figure on the right shows the night-time mountain breeze where air drains to the bottom of the mountain, where it is warmed and recirculated to the top of the mountain.
