Figure 2.3 shows how a puff model treats a continuous emission point source as a series of "puffs". The puffs are represented diagrammatically by interlocking circles that become increasingly larger the further away from the source. The course of the circles changes direction moving up and then down to show how the model tracks the actual course of the plume downwind.
