Air Quality Review

Environment Minister Hon Dr Nick Smith is inviting public consultation on changes to the National Air Quality Standard.

On 10th June 2009, Environment Minister Hon Dr Nick Smith announced a review of Resource Management (National Environmental Standards Relating to Certain Air Pollutants, Dioxins and other Toxics) Regulations 2004 (the air quality standards).

The air quality standards, which were gazetted in 2004, set threshold concentrations for certain air pollutants.

The Government commissioned an independent Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to review the standard in 2009.  The TAG prepared an independent report containing recommendations which form the basis of the Government’s proposed amendments to the air quality standard.

Five workshops will be held in main centres in June 2010, on the proposed amendments.

You can register to attend a workshop online at: http://www.mfe.govt.nz/survey/x10nesaqrvwrsvp.htm

Submissions must be received by the Ministry for the Environment no later than 5.00 pm on 9 July .

You can make submissions on the discussion document on the Ministry for the Environment’s website http://www.mfe.govt.nz/survey/x10submpropaqs.htm

Submissions can also be sent to:
