Backpacker backs LoveNZ recycling brand

29 April 2008

The tourism industry is committing to recycling facilities to help New Zealand maintain its ‘clean and green’ reputation overseas. Today marked the launch of LoveNZRecycle with care recycling bins at the Wellington City YHA.

YHA Wellington City will pilot the use of the LoveNZRecycle with care brand for the Youth Hostel Association New Zealand.

The brand was developed to clearly mark recycling facilities for the government's LoveNZ initiative. It will help demonstrate the Youth Hostel Association’s, and New Zealand’s, green credentials to overseas visitors.

Businesses are encouraged to get involved through their local council with the opening of the next funding round.

As many backpackers are environmentally conscious, having recycling facilities in backpacker accommodation around the country will meet their expectations to do the right thing for the environment.

The LoveNZ project was launched as a key project to improve New Zealand’s sustainability. It is a partnership between central and local government. It aims to have 600 recycling bins installed in tourist areas throughout New Zealand by 2010.
