The LoveNZ recycling bins help maintain our ‘clean, green’ image – the image which brings heaps of overseas visitors to our country every year. Many tourists have told us they expect to recycle when they are on the road but they are not always able to do so. And that is exactly what LoveNZ intends to offer.
But LoveNZ is not only for tourists. Local residents can recycle their drink bottles and beverage cans too when they are out and about. Recycling at home and in public means that everyone has a chance to do the right thing for New Zealand’s environment.
What’s great about recycling is that it not only helps to limit the amount of litter and waste being unnecessarily put in landfills, but it also saves the energy and resources that would be used to make a brand new product.
Today, you can find bins from as far as sub-tropical Paihia in the Bay of Islands, down to Wanaka in the Southern Alps. And it doesn’t end there – LoveNZ is spreading even further in the next couple of months…
By 2010, there will be more than 600 LoveNZ bins on streets up and down New Zealand. You will find them all on this website.
The network goes further than the 600 government-funded bins. More and more tourism businesses are taking on the LoveNZ brand to offer their customers recycling facilities – look out for them when you visit holiday parks, campervan depots, youth hostels and other tourist attractions around the country.
More information on the LoveNZ initiative can be found on the Ministry for the Enviroment website.
