The key requirements of international agreements

This page provides information on the two international agreements governing the trans-boundary movement of hazardous waste that New Zealand is party to:

• the Basel Convention
• the Waigani Convention.

The obligations of these conventions have been transposed into New Zealand law under the Imports and Exports (Restrictions) Act 1988 and the Imports and Exports (Restrictions) Prohibition Order (No 2) 2004.
