The permitting process

If your export is deemed a hazardous waste and does require a permit, you will need to submit a comprehensive application. This must include:

  1. The purpose of export and description of the waste
  2. Notification form
  3. Copy of contract(s) between exporter and recovery/disposal facility
  4. Proof of appropriate environmental insurance in case of any incident that affects the environment and/or human health
  5. Evidence of environmentally sound management of the recovery/disposal facility.

Applications are assessed by the Environmental Protection Authority on a case-by-case basis. The onus is on the exporter to meet the requirements and satisfy the EPA that the shipments will be undertaken in an environmentally sound and efficient manner. Contact the EPA for further details.
