Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill

Green Party Environment spokesperson Nandor Tanczos put forward a Members Bill covering the management of solid waste.

On 14 June 2006 the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill had its first reading in Parliament. The Bill has been referred to the Local Government and Environment Select Committee and is to be reported back to the House by 31 October 2007.

The Bill is expected to receive its second reading in late 2007.

This is a Members Bill developed by the Green Party. The government supported its referral to the Select Committee so that wider consideration could be given to waste issues.

In September 2007, the government has provided the Local Government and Environment Committee with a Supplementary Order Paper that contains amendments to the Waste Minimisation (Solids) Bill. These amendments reflect government’s preferred policy.

The Select Committee will decide whether they will further consult on the SOP and who they will consult with. If you have any queries regarding this process or the SOP, please contact the Clerk of the Committee:
