Landfills
The Ministry for the Environment has a variety of work relating to landfill practice in New Zealand . We produce guidelines for specific issues, submit on landfill resource consent applications, and have undertaken a review and audit of operating landfill sites throughout New Zealand .
Notify MfE of new landfill consent applications
The Ministry should be considered an interested party when landfill consent applications are notified. For more information see Intervention into the consent process.
Landfill Guidelines
The Ministry for the Environment has produced a series of guidelines relating to landfill issues. These are available for free by emailing publications@mfe.govt.nz or can be downloaded for free from the waste publications page.

The Sustainable Management Fund has also funded the development of good practice guidelines for landfill design, siting and operational procedures by the Centre for Advanced Engineering: Landfill Guidelines (PDF 667 KB).
The Landfill Review and Audit
The Landfill Review and Audit updates the 1998 National Landfill Census and uses a rapid hazard assessment to consider the risks posed by operating landfills in New Zealand.
